Wigs can seamlessly integrated into our lives, offering fashion, convenience, and necessity all in one. Among the most sought-after wigs are synthetic and human hair varieties, each serving distinct purposes and proving to be valuable investments. Regardless of the type, every wig owner aims to extend the lifespan and maintain the pristine condition of their wig. Unfortunately, the absence of clear care routines, especially for synthetic and human hair wigs, often leaves owners feeling uncertain. To eliminate this uncertainty, our experts with 30 years experience in the hair replacement world, have crafted an article detailing care procedures for both synthetic and human hair wigs. Excited? Let’s dive in!

Understanding the Basics: A Quick Overview

Let’s understand the difference between synthetic and human hair wigs. This understanding is crucial in determining the precise care routine required for each type of wig.

Synthetic Wigs

  • Synthetic wigs are crafted from artificial materials, often made from various types of fibers such as Endura fiber or high heat fiber.
  • These wigs are pre-styled and retain their shape, making maintenance relatively easier.
  • They are more affordable and resistant to weather conditions, but they can’t withstand heat styling. Other than the high heat fiber, which can take heat up to 200 degrees

Advantages

Low Maintenance: Synthetic wigs are easier to care for as they maintain their style even after washing.

Durability: They can last 4-6 months with proper care or more.

Affordability: Synthetic wigs are generally more affordable than human hair wigs.

Weather Resistance: The memory style of synthetic wigs allows them to maintain their shape and style in any weather.

Disadvantages

Less Natural Look: Synthetic wigs may lack the same level of realism as human hair wigs, especially upon close inspection.

Styling Limitations: They cannot be styled with heat, which may limit your styling options.

Human Hair Wigs

  • Made from natural human hair, these wigs offer the most natural look and feel.
  • They allow for heat styling, colouring , and customization, mimicking one’s natural hair.
  • Human hair wigs demand more care and attention, similar to your bio hair.
  • We offer Remi Hair, European Refined Hair and unprocessed pure human hair

Advantages

Styling Versatility: Human hair wigs can be coloured, permed, and styled just like your own hair.

Texture: They come in a variety of textures, allowing you to match your own hair texture closely.

Longevity: With proper care, human hair wigs can last a year or more when worn daily.

Natural Look: Human hair wigs are created from harvested human hair, so they look, feel, and act just like your own hair.

Disadvantages

Maintenance:  Human hair wigs require regular washing, conditioning, and styling, similar to natural hair.

Price: They tend to be more expensive than synthetic wigs.

How to Care for Your Wig

Synthetic Wig Care Routine

Washing:

  • Gently comb out any tangles using a wide-tooth comb.
  • Fill a sink with cool water (to preserve the synthetic fibers) and add synthetic wig shampoo.
  • Submerge the wig and swirl it around softly to cleanse.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cold water and pat dry with a towel.

Drying:

  • Gently finger comb short, curly wigs. For longer hair, gently brush your wig, remove any matting, parting it where you like.
  • Place the wig on a wig stand. Do NOT let it dry on a Styrofoam head, as it will stretch to the size of the Styrofoam head and the inside of the wig will deteriorate faster.
  • Avoid using blow dryers or exposing them to direct sunlight, as it might damage the fibers.

Styling:

  • Stick to products made for synthetic wigs to style or shape them. Products for wigs are formulated to keep the fibers soft and give the wig movement. Non-wig products will make the synthetic heavy, sticky and reduces its longevity.
  • Stay away from hot tools like straighteners or curling irons.
  • Lace front wigs require special attention. Do not brush or comb excessively or use a hot blow dryer or straightener to close to the lace front as it will weaken, fray and rip the lace easily.

Wearing:

  • Secure the wig properly with adjustable straps or clips.
  • You may use a wig velour grip. This helps to secure your wig even when you have your own bio hair.

Storing:

  • Keep the wig on a stand or in its original packaging to maintain its form.
  • Store it in a cool, dry spot, away from heat and moisture.
  • If traveling, place your wig in a satin bag, fold it inside out. This will help to maintain the style. And don’t forget to bring your foldable wig stand and care products with you.

Human Hair Wig Care Routine

Washing:

  • Detangle gently using a comb or brush made for wigs, paying attention to the underneath at the nape area.
  • Use lukewarm water (to avoid stripping of natural oils) and a mild shampoo for human hair wigs.
  • Introduce water and shampoo as you are holding the wig. Always have control of your wig.  Once the hair is completely soaked, immerse it into a sink full of warm water and hydrating human hair wig shampoo.
  • Finger comb the wig in the same direction as the hair flows. Pay attention to the inside of the wig.
  • Rinse the inside and outside of the wig thoroughly, always holding the wig in the same direction as the hair flows.

Drying:

  • Pat the wig dry with a towel, avoiding rough movements.
  • Brush the wig gently starting from the end and moving up to the top.
  • Let it air dry on a stand to keep its shape intact. Once it is almost dry, now you blow-dry. Don’t forget to spray the heat protector first.  Just like you would do with your bio hair.

Styling:

  • Heat styling tools can be used cautiously at low heat settings. Remember to always apply a heat protector first.
  • Apply human hair wig-specific products for styling and maintenance.
  • Lace front wigs require special attention. Do not brush or comb excessively, or use a hot blow dryer or straightener to close to the lace front as it will weaken, fray and rip the lace easily.

Wearing:

  • You may use a wig cap to safeguard your natural hair.
  • Adjust the wig for a snug fit using clips or wig grip it.

Storing:

  • Store the wig on a stand in a cool, dry place. Not a Styrofoam head as to not warp the shape of the wig.
  • Cover it with a breathable fabric to shield it from dust.

General Tips for Both Types of Wigs:

Avoiding Environmental Damage: Keep wigs away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight to prevent fading, frizzing, or damage to the fibers.

Use of Products: Use specially formulated wig care products recommended by manufacturers to maintain the wig’s quality without causing damage.

Where Can I Purchase the Best Synthetic and Human Hair Wigs?

Finding a reliable source for quality wigs is crucial for making your purchase a worthwhile investment. The quality of a wig significantly influences its durability and natural appearance. Even with proper care, a low-quality wig may not last beyond the first month or maintain its prime condition.
